Plain-clothed and Uniformed officers will be targeting
pickpockets during the busy Christmas Shopping time. Anyone caught will be
arrested and prosecuted.
In a statement, Staffordshire Police warned the public to be
extra vigilant as this time of year there is an increase in pickpockets in busy
towns and cities.
Shoppers are advised to keep their handbags, purses, valet
and money safe and to make sure they are taking simple crime prevention
measures to keep their valuable safe.
Be aware of who is around when using an ATM or paying for
goods at counter. Shield your pin and make sure not to let anyone see what's in
your purse.
Ladies are advised to wear across-the-body hand bags and not
to leave their bags in trolley, pushchair or wheelchair as it can be stolen in
seconds.
Pickpockets can work in groups and use distraction methods,
Police warned.
Martin Brereton Chief Inspector said, We take this type of
crime seriously and we will have uniformed as well as plain-clothed officers
spotting thieves and pickpockets. Anyone caught pick -pocketing will be
arrested and prosecuted.
